I am attempting the same thing. How did you attach the lights? Did you wire them into the "work light" circuit, or splice into the wires for the tail lights on the fender?

The best was is to come from the battery into a fuse block and then a relay and switch, then out to the lamps use at least a #14awg wire crimp or solder your connections. Cover the exposed wires with the chrome wire cover tie wrap in place and your good to go .
