Just finished my 50 hour service and can’t decide if I’m being overly critical and the tractor has always done this or if this is abnormal and new.

At 2000 RPMs in high gear on flat ground if you accelerate quickly, the tractor bogs down to 1500 and then climbs back to 2000. Once you’re up to speed, it’s fine but any slow down and then acceleration you get a bog down.

In medium gear the bog is like 150 rpm.

100% normal.

My L2501 acts pretty much the same in that situation. Definitely a shock when I first noticed it but now I just accelerate slower if I’m in high which is very rare. I’m assuming it’s a side effect of the HST vs gear driven/manual

I’m going to have to try to replicate this.

I have only had mine in “high gear” once…..

(When I was doing “time trials” down my street when I first got it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:)

The HST pedal is not an accelerator. It is a (hydraulic) gear selector.

When you mash down you are upshifting the transmission without increasing engine RPM. The result is the same as what you would get if you did that in a manual transmission.

The HI selection is good for flat or downhill on most of these tractors. And as mentioned, the pedal doesn't act like the gas pedal on your car. If you're familiar with manual transmissions, starting out in HI is like pulling away from a stop sign in 4th gear.

Like you, I never use H, but ran to the road to grab the mail after my service and was just checking things over, so it was a “uhhh ohhh” moment!

Would you recommend to use full throttle for high then, I usually keep it around 2k if I’m in anything above low. I think mine tops out somewhere around 2300?

I operate my tractor (L3901) at no less than 2K in every range. That gives you the best HST response and reduces the frequency of regens. The gsrden tractors dont have a tach but they run close to full throttle.

Okay thanks. 70 hours in still getting used to operating it. Thankfully mine is under the 26hp rule so no regent, but good to know in case I ever upgrade!
