I have an L3301 with R4 15x19.5 tires. I need to put chains on them. I have read contradicting information regarding whether or not I need spacers. Can somebody help clarify for me please exactly what I need? Thanks in advance.

I have a L3901 with the same size tires, my dealer told me when I purchased it that I would need spacers if I ever wanted to run chains, so I purchased them as part of the sale. He stated there is not enough clearance for the chains without them.
I ordered in 3” Bro-tek Spacers to enable this on my 3301 with R4s (and just widen Butch up a little). Great customer service from Richard at Bro-tek. Now I’m looking around for the easiest way to pull my loaded rear tires off without breaking my back. Actually ‘pulling’ them off won’t be hard—it will be putting them back on. I won’t be widening the front.
I was told I had to have them on my b 2710 with turf tires. Well I run around 18 to 20 hrs a week no spacers but they are low profile chains and are tight tight. Probly should have spacers but then I need a wider bucket. Mabey in the next year we will see where financially can do but for now it works I just keep them tight.
ayak - Are 3" required or can I go smaller? Have you hung the chains on the tires to see how much clearance you have with the 3" spacers installed?
Best thing todo is grab a tape measure and measure from tire to closest point of fender or bolts or catch items. Most chains recommend 3 inch or more clearance my low pros are at least 2.5 inch clearance. Then go from there. On spacers keep in mind width of bucket or snowblower you dont want tires wider than your implements. That's part of my problem if I put spacers needed like 2 inch I need to get different bucket, which is all on agenda for near future but that's another ordeal lol
Likely depends as well on other factors such as chain type and fit. I picked 3” spacers because those gave me the equivalent width on that rear as R1’s have that themselves are moved all the way out. I’m on hills a lot so that was really my primary reason. I haven’t even procured any chains as of yet.
Picked up one of these to help get the rear R4’s off and on (once the weather warms up, anyway).

I envy you guys! If only that would work on my dirt floors...OK, I suppose it might if I layed down a piece of plywood first...BUT OUCH...low grade plywood sheeting is now over $40 per sheet here!
