I have an L3250. I have been using it today and everything was fine until, I stopped as something fell out of the transport box (on a hill) . Stopped, switched off engine , engaged brakes etc. Attempted to drive on after re loading but virtually nothing. A little bit of drive on tick over. Its the same in reverse and the same in 4wd. I'm hoping its something simple of course. Does anyone have any ideas please folks ?

First check that the range selector is fully in either high or low....

Has the clutch operated normally in recent uses?

Does the shuttle linkage feel normal - like it's still connected?

Yes, rbargeron, the first two for sure, however when you refer to the shuttle could you please elaborate ? Thanks

Sure I can elaborate - the left hand lever controls the "shuttle", also called the reverser. Its linkage to the transmission can become worn or loose, preventing the gears from being positively engaged - hence stranding the machine in forward, reverse or neutral.

The shuttle linkage consist of multiple links, pivots, levers and pins - lots to get worn and out-of-tune. Look under the left floorboard while someone shifts the lever back and forth - see if you can see what's trying to move and whether it all does.

To make the forward-reverse linkage confusing to examine, it also functions to restrict going into reverse when in high gear. The linkage takes some study to figure out what's doing what.

I have workshop manual pages M.3-12 and M.3-13 that show the shift and shuttle linkages. The .pdf scans are too big to attach here, but if you send me your email I can send them that way. Dick B.

Apologies, I understand now, yes it all working, im getting concerned that i broke the diff or a drive shaft. It will crawl on tick over though. I have tried fwd engaged and also diff lock, but its no different. Its a real puzzle

I've sent the shuttle pages by email - they can be zoomed up a bit to get an idea of how the linkage and restrictor function. Check that Lever 8 on the transmission is moving far enough in both directions.

Or this could be a simple clutch adjustment. Adjust pedal for about 1" free play. See attached page for L3450 (same setup)
