I have a L3240 with loader 4x4 , we were loading bark mulch and the air vent nipple on the belly of the transmission housing started leaking it was 105 degrees outside. What would cause this to leak trans oil , I check trans fluid behind rear drivers seat it is full. If there is a vent plugged someplace forcing trans fluid out inner housing seal where is this vent and how would I ck it's clean?

Would almost bet it's the 4wd shaft seal leaking from the transmission. Requires a split at transmission and motor. To see if continues, first off, only use 4wd when needed. Way too many people leave our engages all the time. Then park it on cement or put a piece of cardboard under it to gauge how much is leaking

Think I have the same problem on my 3240. Only have less than 700 hours on tractor and have oil leak from rear of engine. About 1/8 cup when I park in garage. Hate to think of the expense of having the tractor split, but it looks like that's where I'm headed.

This has happened to several L40 models, mine happened under warranty and a couple of owners had theirs fixed even after the warranty expired, but I don't remember by how much. An improved seal is used on the replacement.

While it is an "improved seal", I believe it could happen again. Best thing to do is to keep the selector in 2wd if 4wd is not needed, just like a pickup truck. It causes excessive wear and torsion on the drive components when 4wd is used on a hard surface and turning. The Grand L's all use this same design, from the L2900's all the way up into the new 60 series.

No guarantee any component won't fail, but I've never read or heard of a second failure. As a matter of course, we use 4WD only as needed on our John Deere, Kubota, Massey Ferguson etc.
