Hello everyone, new to the forum. Just setup an account to see if I can get some help. I recently purchased a one owner L3000F with 360 hours on it. Tractor is in great shape. I am a little OCD when it come to things being right and working right. So that is what brought me to this forum. The taillight (Not the blinkers) seemed to have gotten a little hot and melted the lens. I pulled it off and the bulb was blown and it had melted the inside as well. I replaced it with a new 1157 bulb and the bulb comes on when you turn the key on. The second stage of the bulb comes on when you turn the lights on. Does anyone know the function of this bulb? I feel like it should only come on when you turn the lights on and the second stage on the bulb should be tied to the brake pedal? Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I feel like it being on at all times is what melted the housing. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Typical behavior. Tractors have tail/running lights not brake lights. One of those elements is probably used by the safety fasher as well.

@TheOldHokie I agree with that, but the flashers are utilized by the orange lights that are on each side. This tractor only has one red light on the left side of the tractor.

Pick up a workshop manual and look at the wiring diagram. Somebody thought there was a need for a dual element lamp.

Someone has altered the wiring
Sounds like they have tied into the optional work light circuit.
Hence the reason the lights com on with the key.
They also sound like they have the lamps wired backwards, the dimmer element is for markers and the brighter element is for flashers.

You should have one set of lights for maker and flashers.
The lens in the back of the fender is just a reflector.
There are no brake lights.

Looking at page 9-M10 it references it as (10) in the service manual

Looks OEM to me but you are missing the right rear tail light. Does that tractor have turn signals?

The red shouldn't take an 1157, it should take a lower wattage bulb and it should be hooked to the rear tail light.
The yellows are also single element.

So if it only has one loop it is a single element? I have never learned wiring diagrams. @North Idaho Wolfman

One element and one wire.
