is a L3000dt any good cant seem to find any information on them:confused:
Hi rail,

I have a L 3000 DT that I bought new in 2000. I have had very good service out of mine. It doesn't have very much fancy stuff on it like some of the higher priced models. Good if you want a simple tractor but it does lack in some of the comfort. I added a step to mine so it would be a little easier to get on. It's a little cramped with a loader on it. I also added the dual element air filter to get the added protection of a dual radial seal filter system and a inline fuel cut off valve. Other than that it has been a very good tractor and other than the occasional flat tire I haven't had any problem at all. I use mine for a little bit of everything. I have a loader and backhoe for it. Forks, bale spear, 6 ft finishing mower, 5 ft rotary cutter, 5 1/2 ft box scrape, 62 in tiller, seed spreader and post hole digger. I live and work on a farm so it handles day to day chores around home as well as doing grade work and land scape work for some local contractors I work with. It's a little work horse and has never let me down yet. It has plenty of power but still it's very light on the wallet to operate as far as fuel consumption goes. Even though it is a fairly plain tractor it does have a dual stage clutch which allows it to have live PTO. It's not as good as a hydraulic PTO but as long as you don't dump the clutch when you engage the implement it works great and will give you years of trouble free service. If you have any more questions about this model I will be more than happy to help you out if I can.

No problem. If I can help you out with any other questions or concerns you have with this model just let me know. I'm not a mechanic or anything like that but I did grow up and still live on a farm so I do have some red neck fix em up knowledge that I have aquired over the years.

Bulldog, I found the two stage air-cleaner article from you at page 39, complete with part number, thx. Odd it was not on there anyway, did I buy an "economy tractor"? Jy.-

I think the 2 stage filter is worth every penny. It's just like a insurance policy for your engine. It would be vital to anyone that plans to keep reusing their air filter over and over again. All it takes is one hole in the element and there goes your engine. I know it makes me feel better every time I drive thru a big cloud of dust.

jonyyuma, the kit is a direct bolt on replacement for the factory filter housing. Take the complete air box out and slide the new one in. When you get done nobody will be able to tell it's not factory installed.

Yes these were considered economy tractors. I look at it this way though. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles to go bad. It's all manual operated. If you need glow plugs you have to engage them yourself. Manual fuel shut off. Yes, it's nice to kill the engine with the key but then again there is not really anything to break or replace either. I love mine and have not had any issues with it. I take very good care of mine but in the same since I work it hard also. It gets used more than my M 9000 does. Don't think of it as a economy tractor. It's a no nonsense work horse.

Thanks, i want the basic rig, for much of the same reasons. I have worked my 8n ford for years. It is very basic, but Tough..I usually choose autos without the frills, as they have served me well, thru the years. JY.

If you have been working with a 8n then you're going to really enjoy the 3000. It is close in size but will work circles around a 8n. Not only more power and traction but it will do it on less fuel.

Hi, The tractor came in last night after dark. The 2 stage Air filter mentioned above cannot be located at Coleman's or Messick's. At this time I have several parts to replace on the hood, headlight area, so this will go to the back burner for now. Tractor seems to be in good condition, even for a 2003 model. I hope to be able to do a little straightening of the grille, and fabricate a guard to prevent further damage to it.Anyone have suggestions where a headlight bezel can be purchased? Thanks, JY.
