Hello all.

Getting into the new to me L2900 over the past weekend to take care of some deferred maintenance. Looking up front, I can see there was something that used to exist behind my battery and in front of the radiator. It's long rusted out, and I found the remnants of a small spring still connected to the front bits.

From looking in the users manual there is a mention about a radiator shutter, and I see it up on the Kubota parts site, but I am having a hard time figuring out what that shutter is actually supposed to do, and if that is the actual part that is rusted out or if there is a separate support that has gone by the wayside.

Does anyone have a photo they can take of this area? Or can they say what is going on with this shutter and what its supposed to help with?

Thank you in advance!

So it's just for letting chaff out the bottom? Anything wrong with not having it there at all?

Ill have to get some photos of what I have left to work with to see how much of a repair it might be. I also need to get an actual battery hold down going, since the previous owner had just put a bungee cord on the battery and it was getting pushed into the radiator....

the screens usually stand off from the rad a bit so when the screen gets covered with say chaff or fluff or whatever the fan is still able to push/pull air through the rad.

It is OK to run without it but realize if operating where light fluff/chaff is present it will nest against the rad and more completely block the airflow versus nesting against the screen allowing a little gap for air movement. Overheating risk will go up in these cases.

I'll try to snap off a better pic sometime, this is the closest thing I can find on my computer. It's not uncommon to find them missing. Usually the battery leaks acid and eats that shutter plate to nothing and eventually falls out......

Do you have the screen?

This is the shutter plate, it, drops heavy debris out the bottom.
If it's missing it's not a big deal, but debris can get between the screen and radiator and clog the radiator fins.

I do have the screen in front of the radiator. It's a bit mangled from what I presume is years of removal up against the loader frame. I took the loader off (with some help from members here) while I took care of most of the deferred maintenance. Has anyone found a better screen configuration to use with a loader attached?

There are definitely signs that the screen wasn't cleaned out on a regular basis, at least for the last few years of its lifetime.

Thank you for all of the replies so far everyone, they are much appreciated.

I don’t have any idea how much room you have in front of the screen or radiator but you might try to fit an air conditioner filter in there somehow. I use a Filtrete cut to fit blue filter. It is a flexible material (plastic?) that the screen or radiator fins will support. That way you may be able to pull it out easier than the rigid screen.

The one I use is washable so I cut two out so I can have a dry one to put in. I usually shake one out several times before washing it out.

I'll have to take a look at that as an option. Thank you for the idea!
