I have read several posts that have stated the snap ring for the pto clutch breaks causing the PTo to stay engaged

At present I have the tractor split in two but I do not know how to get to the clutch pack or the overrunning clutch.

It is occupying my whole shop and I need to get it repaired ASAP.

Can someone please advise me.

So you don't have a service manual? Also it would help to know which version of PTO you have and also the the exact model and serial number. i.e. DT, GST or F?

Be sure to rule out something in the external PTO control linkage that prevents disengaging the PTO. Had this happen on my L4610 when it was fairly new. Simple fix done by dealer when they installed the backhoe; has been fine ever since. Worth checking before tearing apart the GST.

I just joined and also have a new to me L2900 with the 8 speed hydrostatic transmission. The PTO stays on constantly and I can't turn it off. I have verified that the lever controls the cable and that the cable moves the lever on the transmission. The tractor has only about 325 hours on it. Is there anything I can do short of taking it apart to further diagnose or fix it?

Thank you.

You are familiar with this problem?
Yes, I am very familiar with this problem. Either the clutch facing is broken loose or the clutch disks are warped so the pack will not disengage.
Tractor will have to be separated and mid case removed to repair clutch pack.

Your tractor would be different, he has Independent PTO and your does not. Your PTO is engaged by clutching the tractor and shifting a hub with two large teeth into another like hub. Lube the shaft where it pivots in the housing and work it back and forth several times. They usually get dirt or some rust there and will not pivot all the way to disengage. About the only internal failure you could have is the shift fork break or the hub stick on the splines it should slide back and forth on if the are twisted. In that case it would have to be separated to repair.
