1 of the round expansion plugs on my cylinder block (there are 4 on each side of the cylinder block I think they ae to prevent freezing damage) has sprung a pretty bad leak. i had been putting a product in the radiator which had been fixing the problem, but know I've changed the water pump and thermostat water is really coming out at pressure. Its just a small hole?crack less than 2mm across right in the corner of the plug. It looks like its corroded, so its not leaking from the seam as if there had been frost damage. I think welding is the only option but I'm not a welder! Anyone on here have any ideas or thoughts?
Cheers Paul

Welding may not be the only option.

Search this forum for freeze plugs as this issue has been covered before. Different kinds of plugs to fix this issue.

I believe they are there for the manufacture purposes. They should be able to punch out and hammer in a new one or put a screw in one with expandable rubber. Or you can put in a block heater at this time in it's hole.

Thanks guys
Would I have to strip the engine down to remove the core plug/freeze plug, or is there some kind of puller anyone could suggest? With the expandable rubber screw technique is this the kind of thing
So drill the hole out a bit to fit the rubber into?

As suggested you can use a punch or old flat screwdriver and use a hammer to hit right next to the edge and the opposite side will bulge out. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN TRYING TO REMOVE. DRILL OR PUNCH TO DEEP AND YOU GET TO THE INTERNAL CASTING. IT ISN'T VERY FAR IN ON SOME ENGINES.

Cheers fellas, just got to find a way of getting the core plugs in the UK. Only place I've found is Messicks who say they won't ship Kubota parts to the U.K!!

If someone purchased these and mailed or shipped them to you in the UK would that work or is there something about that that’s not really good to do?

is there a Kubota dealer in the UK that can ship to you?

"Freeze plugs" that are used in the manufacturing of the block are in a number of common sizes and used in virtually all traditional engine casts so you should be able to source one from a automotive parts supplier in the UK. They aren't just used by Kubota.

And completely flush the system of any coolant "sealant" you have used because it causes issues.

Yep Russel I'm currently asking cousins I haven't spoken too in 15 years via facebook who live in the U.S if they can forward it too me. But I haven't heard back from them! U.K kubota dealers don't seem interested in supplying parts for my 30 year old L2850, i'm getting the impression it was not a very common model here!

All of the dealers in the USA have a "Charter" or contract with Kubota. One of the conditions of being a dealer is they can not sell and ship across the borders of the nation. Doing so would void the Charter and Kubota can pull all parts, equipment, and dealer contract.
