I have an 1992 L2850 with a 4 foot brush hog that the engine runs good, but when I set the brush hog down while engaged it bogs the engine down to almost killing the engine, I push in the clutch and the engine returns to PTO range and when I release the clutch to engage the PTO the engine bogs down again. Any thoughts?

Blades are sharp?

Grass too tall?

Setting the mower too low?

They work better when the tractor is moving, so the mower can get rid of the cut grass.

Also I'd rather have a 5' cutter on that size tractor.

Remove cutter shaft from tractor and try turning it by hand... Cutter gear box may be toast...

P.S. Also look under the cutter (and probably OVER the stump jumper) and make sure you haven't wrapped anything around the shaft. Also make sure there is nothing wedged underneath anywhere...

Did this problem just start? Or has it been this way since day one? If you don't find anything wrong with the mower such as the previous replys have suggested, I'd suspect a fuel starvation issue just starting to happen. If you don't find any problems with the mower, change the fuel filter.

Also, your air filter could be mostly clogged up. I would check it too. When the tractor's governor senses an extra load and tries to add extra fuel, it may be starving for air and flooding the cylinders. Happened to me. Once... (ok, ok, twice. I'm a slow learner)... :D
