I'm trying to trouble shoot my tach issue on my L285. The tach cable does not spin so I took it off and looked at the tach drive assemble and noticed that it looks like a spring that goes into the tach cable. Would the piece of metal that goes into the tach cable suppose to spin? I do not see a way for it to spin and just trying to figure it out.

Are you talking about the spade in the portion that bolts to the motor? With the cable disconnected, start the tractor. You should see the spade in the end move. If you dont see it move, then your issue is there.

To test the cable and tach, you can hook a cordless drill to the end of the cable and ease into the trigger :D you should be able to see the tach climb.

Yes I am talking about the part that bolts to the motor. When the tractor is running the part that bolts to the motor does not spin. Is there a way to repair this part. It seems to be a sealed part that cannot be taken apart.

Ok I just realized that the cable was broken off into the tach drive assembly that bolts to the motor. After getting it out I realized that when you spin the metal shaft that hooks into the slot in the motor, the other slot you can see on the other side that the cable locks into doesn't turn. I'm guessing the whole part is bad right ?

In case you have not searched yet.. if you do so you will find many threads on this same topic. Browse thru them and much of what your asking and even what you have not thought to ask about yet is all there for you.

Once you take a gander at them fire away more great questions.

Thanks for the help. I will take look at some older post.
Also look in the Ultimate READ ME for how to get into the parts schematics at Kubota. Just went there and looked. There are two part numbers for yours. Correct one is according to serial number of engine. The concept looks the same as many of the other setups on the Kubotas.

Hopefuly one of the folks in here who have dealt with this V model engine will pipe in too.

You have a couple options,
http://www.messicks.com/vendor/kubota

or here at kubota.

http://www.kubota.com/part/partsList.aspx

Just click the "i agree" button and type in l285. It will give options for the l285, and the l2850. Click on the option that fits your tractor,

On the messicks sight, put in l285 in the kubota model search. It will list a few different model options. Select the one that applies. If they ask for an email to send you the break down, go ahead and fill it in. They will only send you the info you requested :D

thanks for the help. Do you have a link for the parts schematics by any chance?
What Darran Pointed out is the two best sources. For future needs it's in the READ ME at the top of this forum.
