Hi guys I am new here and have already found tons of useful info so thanks in advance. My problem that I am having is my L285 will now barely pull anything I have used it for the past 5 years for nothing but bush hogging and it has worked flawlessly however this year I have started back cutting and it will barely pull even in low and first gear. The rpm's stay high and the motor runs fine it just does not want to climb a hill or any incline for that matter. I am hoping someone has a magic solution that I am overlooking or a checklist. The only thing that I have attempted so far is to make sure the free play in the clutch pedal is set correct and it is.

Check the easy and obvious first, which you started with on the Clutch, Trans fluid ??? not only the amount but the condition..

I know this is probably a stupid question but the transmission and hydraulics share the same fluid correct? I can't find a place for just transmission fluid.

Thanks I will check it and possibly change it this afternoon. Do you happen to know how many gallons it holds?

I'm betting your clutch is either in need of adjustment, worn out, or severely contaminated with fuel or oil. Does it sound and smell different when it's slipping?

A gear drive tractor doesn't need any fluid to transmit torque, just for lubrication and cooling.

Sorry guys but thanks to the tropical storm I have yet to have a dry day in order to change the fluids but hopefully I can get it done tomorrow. As far as the smell that is whats odd there is no burnt clutch smell at all.
