Driving my L2800 down a dirt road, everything dies, 40 amp link fuse at battery that says Key Switch is blown. Wiggle all wires I can find put another one in. Runs awhile blows again. Now has blown three and wiggling does not seem to help. I know I have a dead short somewhere but can't find it. Does the wire from that fuse go directly to the key switch? Can I take the center wire loose from the key switch and run a wire directly from the battery to the center of the switch to get it home? Tractor only a couple of years old and all the wires are encased. Makes it hard to track them down. Thanks for any advice and help.

Phil... just to get it home check the fuel shut off solenoid and make sure it not slammed tight against the fuel stop ( just make sure its free, because it may be grounded ) put the leads a remote start push button switch between the starter solenoid and the heavy battery pole on the starter and start it up and auto ignition should get you home and when home, shut the fuel off by manually closing the fuel shut off solenoid. ( it will have the adjustable screw painted red on top and just close it against the fuel stop ). Ive got an L2600DT Gear tractor and that worked for me.

Nice of Ob1 to tell you a way to get her home.

Now I'm sure that Phil is wondering why the heck the 40 amp fuse keeps blowing.

I'm also wondering. My zd18 mower keeps blowing the 40 amp fuse located near the starter (I believe it is somethimes referred to as the 'fusible link").

Anyone out there who knows the most likely reason that this large fuse would keep blowing? Sure it might be a wire short, but might it also be a sticky starter or a bad safety or ignition switch?

What is the easiest way to troubleshoot the reason that there fuses blow?

Thanks, Bruce

Wild ass guess here....fuel shut off solenoid is grounded check with meter for continunity ( look at the schematic and make sure the solenoid is not part of the combination box circuits or this won't work ) now crank the engine with a remote push button switch ( I think you jump across the Black w/purple strip solenoid wire to the heavy red cable from the battery on these ZDs ) and if she starts and the fuse don't blow you have the issue otherwise suspect the ignition switch itself. Seen this before on ZDs. ;)

I checked last night and all you have is a safety neutral switch on the range selector if you have a geared tractor so this will work Phil :)
