I have a L2800 and I hate the adjustment ( raise / lower) arm. My other tractors had a crank that I could reach from the seat to raise or lower tilt the 3 point hitch. This unit has a locking nut and a puny T bar. Is there an optional crank type adjustment arm?

It comes in two different sizes. I chose the one in the second link, and it has worked out great. It wasn't a perfect fit- I had to make a sleeve for the upper mount, but it was an easy alteration. Well worth the money.
It comes battleship grey, so I painted mine JD green.

I have a L2800 as well and I like you found my previous ford tractor had a better design than this tractor. I mostly just level it up one time and try not to have to re-adjust it anymore.
