I'm rebuilding the engine for my L275 and am trying to hang the pistons on the rods. The pistons have a red dot on the underside which I would assume needs to be oriented toward the front of the engine, but I cannot find any mention of it in the factory service manual. I cannot see any difference in the piston from one side to the other.

The service manual also mentions facing "alignment marks" on the rods toward the infector pump side of the engine. Is this the stamped numbers on the face of the big end of the rods? Sorry for all the questions, first Kubota rebuild and don't want to ever take this thing apart again.

Look on the tops of the pistons for a mark, if not then yes it's most likely the bottom marks.
The rods have numbers stamped on the flats on the sides, make sure those face the Injection pump side.
