L2502 PTO switch

Hi all, I just purchased a 2023 L2502 to replace my old, tired '48 Ford. One thing that's a little different for me is the electric clutch for the PTO. While having a live PTO is nice, I am a little concerned with how aggressively it engages once the switch is turned on to activate the PTO. Whenever I have my bush hog or finish mower connected, switching the PTO on results is some somewhat violent shaking of the implement as the PTO clutch engages and the implement tries to get up to speed.

The only time I engage the PTO is at idle, but it still seems to have a harsh engagement. Is this cause for concern? Am I worrying over nothing?

I can't speak to an L2502, but I engage the PTO on my 2380 above idle. Idle on mine is about 1500 rpm. I engage PTO around 1800 rpm. Seems to be a smoother engagement on mine there instead of at idle. Maybe your operator's manual says something about engaging the PTO?

I may try a higher RPM. The manual doesn’t specify an engine speed for PTO engagement - or if it does, I’ve overlooked it.

My B3030 has the same independent PTO,although lever activated.as your tractor has the switch.
I still get the wiggle when engaging the PTO for the rotary cutter,but the snowblower is smooth.
16 years and no problems engaging at idle.

This is why I miss the manual transmission on my long sold B7100. Step on clutch, shift PTO lever into appropriate speed. Select transmission stick into appropriate speed. Give it a little RPMs as you slowly release the clutch.
My LX2610 HST shimmies and shakes doing it the Operators Manual way, at idle. Because there's no slowly releasing a "clutch" on a hydrostatic. Which is a bit disconcerting.

If I recall correctly, someone said that they "quickly turn it on and off" a few times.

Basically "ramping it up" to full speed.

Can't recall if it was on an L series though.

I also have no idea if thats a good solution or not.

So I mowed the yard today and played around with various RPM settings to see if I could smooth out the PTO engagement. Turns out just above an idle (1200RPM) seemed to be the sweet spot - for my setup, at least.

So much rotating mass on a rotary cutter, that I think the shimmy is just part of the deal.

Feathering the clutch on my 2501 still results in quite the ruckus spinning up my RCR1260.
