I know this has been talked about some but I am hoping for a way to confirm the issue. I have a 2022 l2501 that will occasionally lose power, sputter and smoke if I try to power through it. It currently has 90 hrs on it. I have had it to the dealer several times for this complaint starting around 40hrs. They cannot seem to replicate. Nor can I when I got in a drive around their yard. After some reading I am leaning towards the lift pump. But could the lift pump issues be extremely intermittent? I can go several days with no issue then it will run rough. If I idle it down and give it a minute it will generally come out of it. The dealer has been hesitant to try any diag or fix. I don’t fault them if it won’t do it while under their care. Now my warranty is up. I have gotten it on video which is how I got them to come get it last time. Is there any specific diag I can do for seemingly somewhat common lift pump issues? I do not like to just throw parts at something but I am getting frustrated with this basically new tractor. Thanks for insight.

Intermittent problems are the worst.

Your choices are seemingly limited at this point. (if it’s truly intermittent)

1) load the parts cannon, hope and pray.

2) wait for “whatever it is” to actually “go bad”.

Probably not what you wanted to hear.

I hate both options though.

What were you doing when it happened?

Any “common” thing like throttle position, turning, going up hill,….. eating a hamburger(JK)….etc?

I would be finding a new dealer if they don’t want to help you out. A good dealer, even if they can’t replicate, can check out many things to verify that they are operating properly.

I have not been able to nail down a common theme of what I am doing at the time I initially thought fully warm under load. I have since proven that wrong when it did upon start up a few times. I can be moving or sitting still at half throttle. I’ll attach the video I shot. I appreciate any insight whether it’s what want to hear or not. It’s been happening off and on since probably 40 hrs or so

I like the dealer ok but your point is well taken. I try to be understanding of if it’s not broke they can’t fix it. I know very little regarding these or diesels in general. I daily drive a 1970 Land Rover so I am somewhat mechanically inclined. But feels like they haven’t wanted to try anything. I’ve paid for the last 2. Visits while under warranty.

Ok, well you are beginning to narrow it down.

If it began at ~40 hours, it should not be related to a 50 hour service “mistake".

And it does it warm or cold.

It will do it moving, and sitting still…..

Thats a start. (y)

Matter of fact it took me a little while to remember but…. When they picked it up for the 50 hr service I believe they had it. They called and said”did you put gasoline in this it is running like shit” obviously I hadn’t and they would damn well know if I did I would think. They drained the fuel and did the service then said it was all set. They have checked filters and fuel tank every time and have never found it dirty.

OK, so now you have “verification” from “trained professionals”…….

I know it sounds stupid, and I am "grabbing at straws’ but was the weather cold/hot/humid/dry?

( I was troubleshooting a vehicle one time and it that would only “act up” when it was “cold out” believe it or not)

As already mentioned, the intermittent nature of the problem does make the diagnosis difficult. There's always a chance that a reader here solved a similar problem and will be able to assist. There's no limit to the goofy things that can happen. One that came up not too long ago was the foil seal from a fuel treatment bottle was occasionally blocking a fuel pickup.

While you may not need it, I would document everything including what you said about them receiving the tractor at the dealership the first time with it running poorly, including who you may have talked to by name if you know.

Also, from this point forward I would document everything and in some detail (time, date, names), just in case.

Probably not needed but you never know.

Hope this solution comes easy… intermittent problems are difficult.

Amen. As a young electrichicken I enjoyed service calls. Great variety and experience. I had more than one customer tell me that "yesterday this darn thing did such and such" and if I couldn't find anything obviously wrong I'd tell them to call me back when it stayed broke.
