L2501 Hydraulics - How far is too far?

I watched this video of a Kubota BX owner adjusting his pressure using the kit from BXpanded here


Good video and his pressure was below factory spec before he raised it with shims. I ordered the kit and plan to destroy my tractor as soon as it arrives. I mean I'm going to check my pressure. If it is below spec I will shim it. I will probably not go up to 2500psi but then I might. If I break something well hell I'll just fix it! I sure ain't skeert to try.

This log lifted the rear end of my L2501 off the ground with water filled tires and a 5 foot bush hog hanging on the back. So why should I crank up the pressure? The only way to move the tractor was to put it in 4wd.

Hydraulic pump flow or GPM does not affect lift ability, it only affects the speed at which it happens.

PSI affects lift ability, hence why everyone want to turn up the system pressure.

You are of course 100% correct. That is the bare knuckles truth. I was more making a generalization as PSI seems, at least in all my reading, to almost always correlate with an increase in hydraulic pump flow. The higher the GPM of the tractor, the higher the lift capacity and thus the higher the PSI. I don't have a full intimate understanding of the full underlying principles but I have always noticed the connection of GPM to lift capacity. I suspect the B2650 has a slightly higher spec PSI over the L2501, that would correlate with the slightly higher pump flow. I make that assumption because it has almost always been the case from what ive seen so far. In real world use though I dont know if the B2650 could outlift the L2501 simply because of the weight of the tractor. Even with several hundred pounds on the 3 point and loaded tires I can still lift the back of the tractor up with some loads. That would be even more an issue on the B2650, which is lighter.

I've not measured my psi, but I've not really had an issue with needing more lift power. If I did need more, my first approach would be to measure and shim if it wasn't at max rated already. Even though it is a lighter tractor, I've not had a problem with lifting the rears. The BH77 is plenty of rear ballast weight. I also usually carry 2, 50 lb chains in the hoe bucket. If I need more ballast I simply extend the boom moving that 100 lbs further back.

HA.... In my day I did 5 miles a day, 25% grade both ways, smoking cuban stogies and drinking moonshine, all why pulling ford!
