L2501 HST RPM?

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I have a new l2501 with 4hrs on it. When I am running the tractor at full throttle the rpms are topped out at 2250rpm while under load and 2350 while stopped? It seems like it should rev higher but I don't know?

It's restricted to keep it under 25 HP so that it falls under the EPA rules needing emission crap. There was a guy that said he got ~40 HP out of the engine... he was from California where you don't mess with that stuff.

He is no longer with us.... (had not seen him back). He mounted a turbo, advance something or another and was on to something. Not sure if the government or aliens took him away

Your pic shows that to achieve the required 540 RPM on the pto, the engine needs to be at 2000 +/- RPM.
That is probably pretty close to the peak torque / horsepower range of the engine, so no need to run the engine right to the pin. All that will do is burn more fuel, make more noise, and put more wear and tear on the engine.
Kubota designed it to run at that 2000 RPM for a reason.

yeah some guys have gotten big power out of them

problem is, increasing the engine speed also increases the transmission speed and pto speed so unless you split it open and replace a bunch of expensive stuff you're mostly stuck. I haven't even looked into the hydraulic pump gearing to see if it's any different than another tractor. i wonder if its got a gear reduction?

local guy came by several years ago looking for a junk engine from another L series, which we had. This was before the crackdown on scrapping of engines and destruction, so more power to him-saved us from having to dispose of it. Anyway he was using the governor and stuff out of it on a 2501 to "speed it up"....and quickly found out that with 3000 rpm the tractor is way too fast to make use of anything unless the trans gearing is addressed. Sorta like an old 9N Ford, it was too fast to crawl. Or mine was. I hated that thing!

Except the diesel perf guy who posted here said the L2501 had a lot of reserve HP. I really don’t have any reason to need more HP, but that’s what he implied. Probably is you have to void your warranty, and I just bought my tractor that has almost completed the circuit of everything I bought it for, HP wise.

Well, I still have the rotary cutter to try but with lots of hills and uneven ground, I think that will be the least challenging of what I’ve asked so far. I can’t think of any reason I need to go fast on uneven ground.

Mabey I missed it? What is the RPM of your L2501 at full throttle? Im not tying to delete my tractor. I'm just asking if it rev's up as high as it should! Thanks again for everyone who answers

Sounds about right - I never wish for higher RPM, but I do wish for it to hold the rpm better when doing tasks. Its the price we pay for only having 25 hp in this weight of machine. Most things just need to be done slower in L range and be light on the HST pedal to keep it moving.

You will need a specific answer from someone who owns the same tractor, but the point made above was if your engine runs at a higher RPM than needed to reach rated PTO speed, you got more than you need.

Yeah Dustin, that is about as high as they go. Same for my L2501.

Just checked mine, full throttle , clutch in, . 2400 rpm

Mine is about the same.. I rarely have it set above 1900 rpm, just does not need it
