I am posting this just so it's easier to find for knuckle heads like me using the search function.

As a preventative measure to keep junk out of my tank, I ordered one of those SS coffee strainers from the Big A.

Welp, I should have read the "entire post", cause it was way too big for my tractor.

Apparently the engineer that put the fill spout in the middle of the hood, also had a say in spec'ing out the fuel fill opening and thought it was appropriate to make a larger tractor have a smaller fuel opening.

So B's have a larger fuel fill opening.

If I had read the entire post, I would have known this.

I did eventually find a 'suitable' strainer for ~20 bucks on Flea-Bay.

It fits almost like it was made for it, too bad its plastic though and I wish it was deeper.

I could envision a person smashing the bottom out with a "diesel nozzle" if your not mindful of that.

Will do. Shipping is a b@€¿c! If anything, I'll be waiting until I need to order something else.

I'm not sure why you guys even fool around with these things. Yeah, they will filter debris but why not just get a Mr. Funnel that filters water out as well? ;)

My reason is that one day when I was taking the cap off, a small chunk of dirt/debris/(something?) dropped into the tank.

I have no idea what it was, but whatever it was, it is now in the tank.

For 20 bucks, it's just "good piece of mind" for me.

The longer one is similar to the one I have in my L185.

I like it but it does limit how fast the fuel goes into the tank. Foam builds up and makes a mess if you don’t limit the flow.

I have a can with a small nozzle and still have to throttle the flow down.

But I also have the same problem when using a Mr. Funnel since I didn’t buy a high flow version of the funnel. Plus you now have some fuel left in the funnel to deal with.

The strainer is very good at keeping junk out of the tank.

Muly b7100 has something similar, no idea if it's factory or not, but it "sticks" in the fuel cap like its factory, as Russell said using the strainer limits my ability to put fuel in, in a hurry

For one, there is fuel left in the funnel. I also don't like funnels because you can't see the fuel level as you pour. And there is always the random debris you miss when cleaning the fuel cap and it seems to always want to jump in the tank. Before one would even put a funnel in.
I really wish they had vented the tank differently.

I bought one of the fancy Mr funnels recently as a result of discussions on this forum. The left over fuel in the funnel is of little consequence, less than an ounce or so. It can be dumped back in the source tank, but then if there is water or junk, you’ll be filtering it out again. I just toss it in the weeds (good thing it’s not a reportable quantity). It’s about 0.15% of the fuel I just put in the tank, and some of it might even be water (1.5 cents if half of it is water). The main draw back is not being able to see the fuel level in the tank being filled and the potential of over filing the tank. I really don’t like that. As mentioned previously, I use a $20 pump from Amazon powered by two D cell batteries to “pump” (start a siphon) from the source tank on the hood into the tractor’s fuel tank.

I just turn the key on when I’m refueling with MR Funnel and watch the fuel gauge. I’m ok when the gauge shows full even if it isn’t to the brim of the tank.

Yup, I want mine full to the brim, every time. I suppose I could just put in 5 gallons every time it’s empty with no worries of over filling.

When the gauge says full, the tank is close to the brim. Sure you could get a bit more in, but not a significant amount.

Ok guys, I post the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

This strainer that I bought fits (y)

HOWEVER, unless you are filling your fuel tank with an eye dropper, it's basically as worthless as a knitted condom.

I will say this though, it does work for keeping large'ish "junk" from dropping in when you first remove the fuel cap, so I am keeping it in. But it has to be removed to actually fill the tank, unless you plan on taking 3.5 hours to fill your tank.

Just my observations......

That sucks. I had hope for it.
