Well I took the tractor out to our place to test the 4wd. After about an hour of hard work it starting leaking water from the water pump. It is leaking in between the pulley and the housing. I am going to trailer it back home to the garage and tear it out shortly. Are these easy to rebuild or is a new eBay pump in order? Thanks in advance

I would assume that they are rebuildable, or at least hope so. A friend has a John Deere skid loader, and the water pump started leaking. Deere wanted almost $600 for a new pump, and he was able to rebuild it for $50 in parts.

The L245DT had 2 different water pumps. The earlier models had the smaller unit which i rebuilt in I got the rebuild kit from Kubota and finished in lees than 1 hour. No more problems for 5 years. The later version had the larger water pump that covered more of the front of the engine which I cannot speak to.

if you have the older model I suggest rebuilding an original piece rather than risk ebay after market.

Thanks MikeL,

I found what you were talking about in the parts book I have. By the looks of things this is an aftermarket. The gasket looks new and there appears to be a little red RTV. I do not think this one is rebuildable. The Kubota pump is 150 the ebay knockoff is 75. I am still going to try to tear this one apart and see if anything looks like I can get locally. It is pumping just leaking water.

Pull it apart and see. The turbine looks intact. If the shaft is not beat up it could be worth the try of a rebuild.

I earned the ribbing. I broke a casting on my last repair with my hammer. I was trying to beat the shaft out yesterday and marred up the threads. I need a good vice and puller so I can leave the hammer alone:D. I ordered the new pump this morning. Hopefully I can have this thing up and running so I can put some seed out next week.

I finished this today. I bought a pump off of Ebay and it came with the gasket. The pump attaches to the block and it is an aluminum surface. I started scraping the old gasket off with a knife and realized that the aluminum was scratching. I switched to a rag and elbow grease. I did have to pull the alternator, radiator, shroud and a few hoses to access the pump. It was not a bad job. Thanks for the help guys. Hopefully I can keep the tractor out in the field and out of my garage for the next few months:D

Your's had the cheaper pump. Mine had the older one that cost the most. Still cheaper on Ebay.
