I'm new to this game, but I have extensive experience with hydraulics and how to get the kinks worked out, but this problem is stumping me..... My dad has an L245DT with a loader and ROPS etc. low hours, and I rebuilt the common front end failures on the tractor this winter. The issue is that I'm thinking the 4x4 isn't engaging when I shift it in to the right spot with the lever on the left side. Also, he got the PTO shifter stuck when he was trying to use it without me showing him how to operate it properly. I was wanting to get some info on how to fix both issues and to have them resolved so it can be fully operational for the old man to use and not get hung up so much. I own the actual complete service manual for the tractor that is like 400 pages and has an incredibly helpful amount of info in it. I highly recommend it! Any help would be greatly appreciated! You can directly email links for info to my email at joshgallant80@gmail.com, or pm me or just respond to the thread! Thanks for any and all you have to offer!

When you fixed the front end did you unbolt it from the transmission? If you did, did you use a new replacement gasket or a liquid sealant? In order for the gears to properly mesh together when engaging the 4X4, you need the spacing of the fiber gasket to allow this to happen. Without this spacing, the 4x4 will not engage.

Under the eng is a tube that the front driveshaft rides in. unbolt the 2 bolts, slide the tube, ( back, I think), then you see a coupler. It should have a roll pin in it. The drive shaft has splines on the end and the coupler has internal splines. Put the trans in 4wd, trans in any gear, jack up one of the front tires and spin it while watching the shaft. does the long shaft spin, does the long shaft not spin but the stub comeing out of the front diff does? Will the front tire not spin.?

I didn't unbolt the front end from the trans and so I know that wasn't what happened, but I'm going to move posts today so I will see about the shaft under the tractor. I really appreciate your response guys!! It is great to get real life troubleshooting tips!
