L245dt tranny/hyd ?

Seem to be leaking tranny/hyd fluid from base of shifter after using3 point for any length of time. Turn off tractor And loosen filler caP on tranny and pressure blows out.it is building pressure n tranny and causing it to blow out of case at shifter base . I assume it should vent somewhere

There is a vent and yours is plugged. Probably somewhere under the seat.

I think your vent is in the same place as on my L185F.

On the left side (if sitting in the seat) right under the seat at the top corner of the housing.

It looks like a question mark turned on its side (horizontal) with the bottom stuck into the tractor. It is made from tubing that is about 1/4 inch in diameter.

You can unscrew it and use a wire to clean it out.

You may have two vents, one under the driver's left elbow hidden under the sheet metal just above the rear axle. Other at or near hyd fluid fill port.

Cheap plastic, looks like question mark per prior poster. Mine just slips off the tiny barbed nipple sticking up from the xmsn housing. Easily lost and when correctly placed doesn't seem to last long before rotting. For mine the local dealer price was something like $18.

Dirt daubers love these things; around my area plugging is common.

I replaced mine with a short piece of thick-wall fuel hose and a U-shaped piece of 1/4-in copper tubing mashed almost flat in a vise then wrapped the thing with a layer of fiberglass netting and cable-tied it. Don't need a big hole, a tiny vent that stays open works fine. Use a small hose clamp to hold the fuel hose onto the nipple and another clamp to hold the copper from slipping out of the fuel hose when it gets a bit oily.

Please post back and advise your experiences and how resolved this problem so we may all learn.

Thanks guys vent was plugged solid. Could not get vent to unthread so used wire to clear hope I didn't push much into system. What's a good way to remove? Ran tractor for 4 hrs no more leaks! Another problem 3 pt hitch vibrating under load must use valve underseat to stop. Position implement then lock to stop shaking. I have a fel. Brochure says 3 pt lift 3000 at bottom link but having hard time lifting 500 lb round bale with rear bale spere? What's formula to figure out capacity as you extend from bottom link?

Sounds like it might be that the pressure relief valve setting is off.

My L185 "squealed" when the lift arms were at the top of their movement. The pressure relief valve was releasing too much at that position and the squeal was the fluid being dumped back by the system.

The 3 point hitch noise was eliminated by adjusting a small rod on the left side of the tractor (left when looking toward front of tractor). It had two nuts sandwiching a small tab connected to the lift arm. Place the lift control arm in the highest lift position and lengthen arm until noise is gone. To insure it is adjusted correctly then shorten arm until noise starts and then back off nut one full turn. Tighten up both nuts and put lift control arm in lowest position and then back to highest lift position (cycle down and up positions). If noise is gone, call it done. If noise is still there, repeat the whole thing until noise is gone.

May be something similar going in with yours.

I'm curious about your statement:

All of mine are just stuck onto a tiny barbed nipple, so loose they almost fall off. I've seen maybe six or seven vent goosenecks that are split lengthways such that if you touch one it falls off the barb.

Come to think of it, are you describing [not] unscrewing the hydraulic fluid filler cap that has a vent sticking out the top of it?

Wanting something more substantial is why I went to the homemade type described above.

Can you explain about the unthreading and / or provide photo / parts schematic?

I looked at the parts book for the L245 and it seem almost identical to my L185. The vent is a rigid piece of metal tubing. It is bent into the question mark shape and threaded on the "flat" (bottom of question mark) end. This threaded end screw into the case.

Russell is correct, the tubing itself is threaded into the case. I broke mine off trying to unscrew it to clean the mud wasp plug. I tapped it slightly larger to 1/8 NPT and installed some regular brass fittings instead.
