I assume you were on a bank or slope of some sort. If so then yes, happens alot while working on banks.

1st time it happened I was baking straight out of a dig area over a 6" or 8" hump in 4 wheel drive. It threw me out of the seat.

Sounds like you either didn't have any ballast or didn't have enough ballast on the rearend. Bad things can happen quick.

If you are going to fast with ground speed yeah it can toss ya. I was plowing the street in front of my house with the tractor and a scrape blade. Clipping along at a pretty good pase I snaged a man hole that was an inch above street level and ended up kissing the hood of the tractor.

The front axle can swivel quite a bit on that 245. With enough weight in the front, you can get a sort of stable plane with the two front and one rear tire - problem is it goes there in a hurry!
If I remember correctly, the FEL on that tractor is good for 600-800 lbs. So you need that much weight out behind you to keep things stable! I always had at least a rear blade - about 350 lbs - mounted if I was going to do any picking up or digging.
Go slow as well.

I make it a point to never do loader work without something hanging on the 3pt. My rear tires are loaded but to me that's just extra insurance, I still want counterweight in addition to loaded tires.

Be safe and happy tractoring.

I wont even use the tractor with FEL on unless I have rear ballast on the 3 pt hitch. The loader alone is Too much weight on the front end for me...

Thanks again looks like I am in the market for a rear ballast.
A box gannon/scraper works well, as does a heavy grader blade, or anything else you have that is fairly heavy to hang off back there, or even something you can stack weight on (like a gannon). I don't see much point in a specific ballast box, unless you just need weight and don't have anything suitable, need to keep the interference zone to a minimum (turns, etc), or you somehow need to "tune" the weight.

A dedicated ballast is nice because they are usually small and don't hang out too far and get in the way. But I usually use a box blade with weight added, because I usually need the box blade anyway when using the FEL.
