Re: Final stretch...

So the uppity Kubota dude down town said "oh yea, you pull the cam, tap in 1/8 NPT plug, and weld it in.. tell you what, you ain't tapping nothing into that cam.. It's harder than my aunt Verna.

countdown...

I used Loctite on my plug as well, per previous advice in this thread.

T minus 1 day and counting...

Final adjustments being made:
tach drive mounted = DONE
alternator, belt, and guards = DONE
radiator + 3 hoses = DONE
battery, box, and air cleaner assy = DONE

Tonight, oil + filter, coolant fill.

...As the morning dew settles in the wee hours of Saturday morning, come 8am, I fully anticipate 25 dark diesel horses roaring to life amongst billows of exhaust clouds emanating from my garage.....oooh, I can't wait.

Re: countdown...

Turned down and Tacked a 5/16 bolt head and shoulder in the cam.. it ain't pretty but it ought to slow the oil leak. Got the case all goobered up with RTV black and back on. though I had everything cleaned, but found oil oozing around the bottom of the case after I set it in place.. oh well, I'll probably be back in there soon enough anyway. check out this site for tunes:

Final Act

...and then one day he went out huntin' food,
and up from the ground came a bubblin' crude...
OIL PRESSURE that is!!
Yee Haw! Oil pressure at last.
Stick a fork in this project- it is officially DONE.

Looking back on this thread, it took about a month.. 15 minutes here, an hour there. It was fun, but I'm glad it's over.
Thanks to all on OTT for the input. Priceless!

Re: Final Act

Got mine back together and running as well. didn't get a gauge on it, but the oil light goes out now just windmilling with the decompression active. seems to have an unnerving knock but I'm not all that used to diesel.. went thru the valves and such, so she's got that nice sewing machine chatter about her.. doing a crankcase flush, I'll run it for a while and see. had a little visit with the local Kubota folks.. went for the hayseed shtick.. and let them run with it.. $25. for an oil filter, $15 for a fuel filter. In the words of my mentor Donald Ditcham, " If that's all It cost's you, you're better off.. It could be a whole lot worse". You can bet that's the last $25. oil filter they sell me... congrats on your repair and thanks all. db
