Needing to replace some seals in my steering column (oil coming up through top) but am having trouble removing the steering wheel. I assume the steering shaft is splined, but can't tell if it is tapered or not.

I have tried penetrating oil, lightly using a pickle fork underneath the steering wheel base and also a two jaw puller to no effect.

Anyone done this and can advise. Thank you in advance.

ac3510!??
I just pulled one off a B7800 with a 3 jaw puller. Tighten the puller up and then hit it with a big hammer. Might take a few tighten and hits. Shaft ws splined.

Finally got it off using a bearing splitter underneath the base of the steering wheel and a puller. It was on there TIGHT and made a loud 'pop' when it finally gave in. Was easy to remove after that.

Wasit splined or just a Morse taper? If splined, I would put a VERY light coating of never seize grease.

Yes, Sir....splined (no taper). Will be using some antiseize going back on.

Hopefully not have to remove it again for another 28 years (won't be here for that anyway).

Never seize is very versatile. One tiny little speck goes a long way. You put that speck under the handle of someone's Kennedy tool box and by the end of the day they got that stuff all over them. It's one of those, Hey Mack, you pickin yer nose again.😜😄
