So the battery tray on my L235 has finally given up the fight against rust and has completely collapsed. Unfortunately I am having a hard time finding a replacement. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

By the time you pay for a used one to be shipped to you all the way there in Alaska you could have had a new one made for you by a local Welder/fabricator. So I'd go that route

Assuming your supports are still good and you are just looking to replace the box the battery sits in, use some small angle iron to form a box and scrap sheet metal with some holes drilled in the bottom to let water out. That is what I did for my L275 -your L236 bigger brother.

Attached a pic of the before - can not find a pic of what it looked like after.

Olthumper's got the right idea for the battery box :D I'm fixing to build one for a lawn mower battery out of a piece of 1/8x1" angle iron and a piece of expanded metal that I have kicking around. I can get the j hooks at the local auto parts for a couple bucks to keep the battery in place.

You can also find plastic universal battery boxes at auto parts stores, camper places and marinas. Take some measurements before you go. You can always cut off height on a plastic box to make it fit...:D

Welcome to OTT!

+1 Diydave's suggestion.

Look around the area: do you see corrosion anywhere else? Almost all battery trays corrode so replace it with something that battery fumes don't dissolve, like auto parts supplier's inexpensive plastic trays.

Please update us on your solution! And just a suggestion: you don't want to incur the wrath of skeets or Tomcat or any of the other tractorporn Nazis who might snarl at you, "Without pics, it didn't happen!" :D:D:D:D

I might add that the next time I have to fabricate a metal battery tray, (hopefully never:D) I'm going to heavily coat it with undercoat or bedliner instead of paint.
