Hello All, from a new member. I have a good old 2250 that has done great work for me for the last few months since I've had it. Now that we are really working it hard a problem has surfaced: when it has been running hard for a while and then it is either shut off or dogs down and dies, it is almost impossible to restart. If we wait a half hour or so we can get it going again, but that is pretty inconvenient, especially when we're trying to get some hay in before the rains come. Any words of advice?

Wash outside of rad with soapy water and a garden hose, check your belt and if you can, pick a lower gear. I mowed with my little kubota on one of the hottest days so far and have been lucky. Also check air and fuel filters. Would be good to know if fuel tank is clean too.

Sounds like a fuel delivery system issue.
When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

All sorts of stuff ends up in the fuel tank over the years. It probably wouldn't hurt to replace fuel line from tank and blow some air back thru the line....stuff will build up and slowly plug the fuel inlet at bottom of tank.

"dogs down and dies, it is almost impossible to restart" could be air intrusion into the system. But then if you don't have to bleed it before it starts after shutting down, it pretty much has to be a lack of fuel getting to the injectors.
