I would like to replace the seal on the pump and I think that hydraulic oil is leaking into my crankcase. I've read numerous posts about having to replace the pump entirely . Does anyone have any experience repairing/rebuilding these pumps and if it's worthwhile? Thank you

Generally speaking these types of gear pumps are not rebuildable. About all you can do is replace leaking seals.

Yes I repaired my hydraulic pump on my L185 by replacing the shaft seal. It was pretty easy just need a relatively clean place to do it. An aluminum pan will do.

The only problem I had was getting the correct seal for the pump. There were three choices for different serial numbers on the tractor. The one matching the serial number of my tractor did not fit the pump. I assume the pump had been replaced by a different tractor with a different serial number. The seals weren’t that expensive so I just ordered the remaining two and selected the one that fit to save time on the ordering process.

Great. Thanks for the input. I'm going to be draining all the hydraulic fluid and changing the filter while I'm at it. Should I just use kubota's UDT or to people use other brands?
