I just pulled my whole clutch assembly and flywheel on my L2250 to replace the ring gear and have the flywheel machined down.

Unfortunately when I removed the flywheel I didn't mark its position. I'd prefer to have the timing marks in the right position should I ever need to do any other work to the tractor.

How do I figure out the proper position to mount the flywheel?

Thank you,

Brandon

AFAIK, normally the flywheel can go anywhere, the timing marks are on the timing gears, camshaft gear, fuel pump gear on the other end of the engine. This particular model may be inherently different for some reason, I haven't checked. Do you have a manual for it?

I don’t have a manual for it.

I understand the orientation of the flywheel won’t affect the timing however there are marks on the flywheel for TDC and injection and I would like to get them in the right position.

If these marks aren’t critical to any future maintenance then I’ll just bolt it right back up. Just a little unsure.

Sometimes if you have a look at the rust pattern on the end of the crankshaft and the back of the flywheel you'll be able to pick up a corresponding pattern.

That was my first hope but they were “kind” enough to clean the whole flywheel for me when they had it at the machine shop.

Not sure on your model but there have been comments made in other threads that the flywheel will only go on one way. The bolt pattern is slightly off so hand start and hand tighten all bolts to make sure it is installed correctly

The flywheel will only go on one way on the crank, the bolt spacing is off a little on one bolt.
Hand thread every bolt in past the shoulder before using any kind wrench on them.
