HI, I have a Kubota L225 that I was just using to move some snow, everything was going fine and then I pressed in the clutch and tried to shift the trains into reverse, the shifter is stuck in first gear and I cannot physically move the shifter to any other gear. Anyone else had a similar situation? Or does anyone have a clue as to what the issue may be? I have tried shifting High/low and that works, tried popping the clutch a few times in the hope that it would release the shift lever, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I do remember reading somewhere the detriments of using "heavy" oil(80w90) in the transmission of particularity older tractors and not letting the fluid warming up properly, lead to shifting problems.
My guess is it's cold weather there, transmission oil not very fluid, you shifted and jammed some linkage in the transmission.

hmmm..... can you throw a tarp over it wisely so not to catch fire from exhaust with it running and let her warm up real good then see if you can get her into neutral so you can tow her or drive real slow n first over near or into your storage area first then shoot for neutral. To help with getting neutral see if you can switch to whatever range she was in, to the other (High / low range). Do you have a DT (4wd). Can you switch her in and out of that? Maybe rocking her back and forth physically once she is at homebase? Anyway; once she is truly hot then see if while hot she starts shifting again? Check all fluids at that time etc. too. Maybe you got water in there and got a frozen chunk of up at the shifter?

that was my first thought - have someone sit on her and you push/pull on rear tire and see if it will spring free

I read about this before, removing top cover and inspecting before attempting anything drastic. May just need to pop it back into neutral with a big bar, therby resetting it to neutral and re installing shifter cover.
Thanks for all of the advice, it is a 2wd and was shifting fine before (I was almost done plowing) I think I'll pull the cover tomorrow and see if I can see anything obvious.

Sounds like the end of the shifter has jumped out of its notch in the 1st-2nd rod. It's a simple fix.
As the end of the shifter gets worn, vigorous shifting can push it out of its notch. The trans can get stuck in gear and won't shift.
With the cover off move the 1st-2nd rod back to neutral (all notches lined up) and put it back together. It may happen again but if you shift gently it might be ok for a long time. If the end of the shifter is chipped or damaged, a good welder can add material and reshape it to be a better fit in the notches.
