Hi All,

I’ve got a grey L2202DT. Have had trouble with the clutch sticking over winter, so last time I parked it up (about 4 months ago) I locked the clutch pedal down to hold it open, as recommended in the manual… Now upon starting it up the pedal has no resistance and gears will not engage. I can move into all gears without issue, but the pedal does nothing, the clutch just remains stuck ‘open’ so to speak.

I ran it well and truly up to temp to see if anything freed up, which it didn’t. There is no unusual noise, apart from a very very slight whine, which I’ve only noticed in the past when I clutch in to change gears.

Any ideas that don’t involve splitting?

Thanks for any advice.

I suspect the springs in your pressure plate have taken a "set". Leave the clutch pedal in the out position and if you're really lucky the springs will return to original. If they don't return to normal over a period of time I suspect you'll be splitting the tractor. The book may suggest locking the pedal down but due to prior issues I won't ever do it atain.

There may be a grease zero inside the clutch bell housing. The grease will get into the area between the shaft and the throw out bearing carrier (does not grease the bearing at all) . There is usually a small cover on the right hand side of the bell housing.

I would give it a couple of pumps of grease but not much more than that and see if it will free up. Too much grease and it will get onto the clutch plate.

Hopefully you can get to the zerk since it back farther than normal when doing this maintenance task.

I don’t know enough about what it looks like in there but you might be able to pry on something and get it to work free. I suspect that the carrier (that slides on shaft) is jammed or rusted in the rear position.

And isn’t winter just starting down under? How long did it sit with the clutch pedal down?
