L2201/L245 Traction worries

Can anyone give me some pointers on increasing traction on a L2201 2wd?
Last tractor was a l2250 4wd so I am a little nervous about the 2wd while bush hogging and discing.
Right now the tractor has turf tires. Would I be better of with ag tires or will chains be ok? also plan on adding a FEL next year (with ballast box on rear of course). I would also like to add some weight on the front, will it handle 250 or 300 pounds on the front bracket to counter the bush hog?

If it were mine and I planned to use it like a tractor (bush hogging, plowing, ect) I would look at getting ag tires and have them fluid filled to add weight and traction. Filled tires will also help you with some extra weight on the rear when you are doing loader work.

I don't see why you couldn't hang a few hundred pounds on the front. I had about 200 lbs on the front of my old B 7100 and did fine with it.

Never worked with 2wd before, how easy is it to get them stuck?

Allmost as easy as a 2 wd pickup. If it has the lever for locking differrential, it's easier to get it unstuck.

Yes there is diff. lock. Anyone else using chains on filled turf tires in sandy, muddy soil or should I go straight to AG? Trying to avoid the cost until next season.

running a lower air pressure will help some , but not to low .

I would start with chains. Much cheaper than new rubber.

In all fairness, you may be fine as is.
Give it a rip before you change things.

yes I am going to try as is 1st. My luck though I will end up in the middle of a pasture 5 acres away from any tree to hook the come a long to get out.

First, I like Lakeland. My daughter, granddaughters and greatgrandson live there.

I would deffinitely go with ag tires for plowing. If you aren't in a hurry you might find some good used ones. If you have turf tires I consider it a lawnmower. I have ag tires on my mower, but it is still a mower. I have mowed over spots of water in my vineyard with no problem. Turf tires just get you stuck.

Where you are you can load the tires with water. TSC has a hose adapter to do it with a garden hose. I would suggest tubes in the tires also. I don't know if they can be used tubeless. I wouldn't. Loaded tires can be run at a lower pressure. With less air in them to compress, when you pick up something heavy on the 3pt they won't squat as quick.

As suggested in a previous reply, try it out before you do anything.
