L175 (l1500dt grey market) temp sensor: repair oem or add aftermarket?

Hello,

I just got done putting a new clutch in my l175. In the process of putting her back together, I broke the wire out of the temp sending unit while I was threading her back in. My questions are:

1.) Can I fix this?
2.) If not, what part should I order? I'm guessing a sending unit. Does anyone know this part # and where it might be available? Already checked ebay motors.
3.) Are there any aftermarket temperature sensors anyone has had luck with that I might be able to install on the l175?

The temp sensor is centered in the first picture while the temp. and oil gauges are pictured in the second.

Thanks for your time guys!

- Nick

Little confused as the L175 does not have a stock temp guage.

Where was this sensor at?

Nick,

I take it the part on the end of the sending unit broke off? If just a bad wire fix that - if the male end is toast, buy another - not to bad of a price:

my bad..... missed a key word !

85Hokie, how in the dickens you going to make an oil sending unit work in a temp. sensing application? :D:D

Sorry, I should have mentioned this is actually a grey market l1500dt, with its closest US counterpart being the l175.
There is a temp sending unit on the starboard side of the block cooling system.
I accidentally tore the wire our threading it back in after putting a new clutch in.
What do you guys think is the best approach to fix this. I am off grid in Alaska, so creativity and tinkering do not scare me. Take care! Thanks for your time guys.

Is the gauge in the factory dash?
As I don't think any of us has ever seen that.

Some pictures of the sensor and gauge would help us know what you're dealing with and what the best route is to fix it.
Send me a PM if you can't post pictures yet because of your post count.

L175 has no temp gauge - just a 'whistle' on the radiator overflow pipe.

It has a tach, oil pressure light and charging system light, and of course the glow plug 'indicator'.

As for a 'temp sensor' - there are two kinds - for a gauge or for a light. AFAIK all gague ones are the same but the light ones are set for a specific temp = 180, 190, etc. Otherwise if it threads in it will work.

Re: L175 (l1500dt grey market) temp sensor: repair oem or add aftermarket?

Look at the pictures he posted, Post #1,

Looks like someone upgraded to an Oil Pressure & and Water Temp gauges mounted on a Bracket atop of the instrument metal housing
