L1500dt questions

I just bought an L1500dt.

1) I'm getting a charging system light on the dash. I brought the alternator into O'Reilley's to get it checked, but they didn't have the right pig tail for it. Napa's alternator tester was on the fritz, I'm not sure whether they have the right pigtail either. I've been looking up Nippondenso alternators online, but they all appear to have a different plug than mine. Mine has 4 parallel flat pins, the ones that I've been finding online (searching for L175 alternator) appear to have 3 flat pins on them with 2 being parallel and one being perpendicular to those 2 unless they're using the wrong picture with the listing.

Does the L175 have the same alternator? Is there a bobcat or something else with the Z750 in it that uses it? The local Kubota dealer is also a bobcat, Toro, and Stihl dealer, so that would be convenient.

2) The PTO spline matches 540 PTO, so I assumed that 540 pto equipment would work on it, and it probably does, but the PTO has 4 speeds. What are the approximate speeds of each PTO gear at WOT? Since it runs off the transmission, does that change depending on whether it is high or low range?

Two of those pins, are connected together on the 1500 alternator so technically it is a 3-pin alternator. If you look at your plug , you will see two of those pins are jumped together

Thanks, Bill. looked at you facebook page on your tractor. Looks like I'm missing the fuse holder cover. I thought that it was odd that they were out in the open like that.

To answer your question about the pto speeds.

1st gear is 540,

second is around 700,

Third is around 850ish,

Fourth is around 1000 rpm.

Doesn't matter what gear the transmission is in or whether it's in hi, or low range. Speed on the pto stays the same, based on engine speed, and which gear the pto shifter is in.

Pto is direct drive off the transmission with no over running clutch. So if your gonna bush hog with it, I would recommend getting on aftermarket over running clutch and install it on the tractor side pto shaft.

This helps you stop when pushing in the clutch. While the stump jumper is winding down.

If your just gonna use a tiller or finish mower, then stopping shouldn't be an issue.

I was planning on getting a bush hog if I saw on cheap, but I'm rethink that. I haven't seen very many 48" ones locally; most of them are bigger, and 15 hp doesn't go very far. There was a nice Vermeer log splitter locally that had been converted to PTO for $400, but it was gone by the time I had gotten around to getting my tractor.

You are going to be surprised how far 15 hp will go. I am partners in my tractor with my neighbor on our old L 1500 DT and we are constantly amazed at what it can do. My folks are are also our neighbours and my Dad loves our unit. He can work it all day and it hardly uses any fuel. The bull low gear and 4 wheel drive makes it a tank.

Wear hearing protecting, put er in gear , pop the the clutch and let er buck!

If you really want to know the condition of your alternator take it to a alternator repair shop. They'll have the proper tools and knowledge to tell you what the output is.

Taking something to Oh-Really is the last resort. Most of them have to know your shoe size, IQ and barber before they can determine what windshield wiper you need!!!!

Think it will pull 5' of back blade, or should I go with 4'?

I'd go with 5' blade. You will need to angle the blade for some work, and you want to clear your rear tires.

Yes, it will pull it unless you hook it on a stump, rock pile, or over load it. Just use good judgement!

5 foot blade will be good for the l1500. four footer is two small since the width of the tractor is around 55". At 22 degrees angle, the 5 footer just barely covers the foot print on the tractor. Angled any steeper and it will be inside the width of the tractor

4' would be to light as well. You'd have to talk your partner into standing on it and they frown upon that?

I wouldn't think that going wider to get heavier would help. Seems to me that you'd need more down force the wider you got. I don't have a partner, but I do have a chunk of I beam. The I beam probably won't complain so much.
