Welll it looks like I get to tear my tractor apart. I have an oil leak which looks like engine oil coming out the drain on the clutch housing. Dealer wants 3000 to do it and it has less than 400 hours on it. I was told when I bought it and it had a 5 year drive train warrenty on it but now I find out it was only 3 and expiried last Sept. How is the best way to do this. Pull the engine or split the tractor. I think it might be the crank seal

Very rare to have a rear engine seal leak on a Kubota! Much more likely to be the seal on the four wheel drive drive shaft, either transmission end or the front axle end. Was the campaign done on that drive shaft on your tractor?

eserv nailed it!

Very rare for a kubota to leak on the engine rear main seal!

What campaign would that be. Mine had not had anything done to it in the 3 years I have owned it

I am just going on memory here but I think there was a campaign on them! I know there was on a bunch of other L tractors two or three years ago. It involved installing a sleeve over the FWD drive shaft inside the bell-housing to retain the wear sleeve inside the seal into place. Check with your dealer if it applied to your tractor. Even if it didn't that quite likely is the problem. I don't have access to Kubota anymore since I retired so I can't look it up for you.

I will do that. If it is that shaft the oil I am seeing may not be motor oil then. It is black like engine oil but maybe it is picking up dust from the clutch housing causing the hyd oil to look black that is dripping out. This seal will be on the rear side of the clutch housing then instead of the motor side

That's right! The oil usually appears darker than you would expect. It isn't that a rear seal leak is impossible! Just very uncommon.

That is what I was kind of leaning toward as my engine oil does not seem to be going down. I thought the black oil looked funny when I put some on my finger and where it dripped on the snow it looks like it had particles in it which could have been dust. I am still thinking this over until the weather warms up. I have a Kubota engine in my skidsteer and that thing is bullet proof

if it is the sleeve coming forward out of the seal it can be repaired by installing the campaign parts without splitting the tractor.

A metal tube that fits over the drive shaft and is the right length to correctly position the seal sleeve inside the seal and go against the coupler on the shaft. Plus a couple of O-rings to keep the tube from rattling on the drive shaft.

Thank you very much I will check that out when it warms up a little bit. Glad I posted this on here

I'm glad to be of help! I hope that is the problem with your tractor! A lot easier than splitting it that's for sure!

I just looked at the service manual for your tractor and it doesn't look like the information I gave you applies to the L3301! That's what happens when you rely on an OLD head for memory! The drive shaft is outside the bell_housing on the L3301! Sorry for the confusion!
