KX040-5 tablet setup for Indeco Mulcher

I recently purchased my first excavator and a mulching attachment. I’m having a little trouble following the excavator manual when it comes to setting it up in the tablet for AUX2. I know it’s very important to setup one way flow. Does anyone know of a website or a YouTube video that gives a good walkthrough for proper setup?

If you want one way flow, just use the breaker mode setting, that is what I use for my rotary cutter as it is setup for one way flow from the factory. You can create a separate mode for your mulcher by going into the aux screen on the display and selecting mode and to the first open mode which should be number 3, and then adjust the flow on the most left line on the display, leave all the other flow settings at the minimum setting. The OM is not very clear but it is not hard once you start playing with screens. There are a few videos that mention the modes and show how to adjust the flows but nothing in depth for the -5.

Found some answers while adding the camera kit, which by the way was easy to do.


The instructions to be the correct installer/service-mode entry procedure for the KX040-5’s 7-inch monitor, including the keyless-start version. The KX040-5 does use the new jog-dial display and keyless starter.


The important part is the power-up timing, try it exactly this way:

1. Turn the starter switch completely to STOP.
2. Wait until the LCD is completely powered down. I would give it 20–30 seconds rather than immediately turning it back on.
3. Press the center of the jog dial inward and keep it continuously depressed.
   • You’re pressing the rotary dial itself—not the Menu button or Return button beside it.
4. While already holding the jog dial down, rotate the keyless starter knob from STOP → RUN.
   • Do not turn it to START.
   • Do not enter your normal 4-digit starting PIN first.
5. Continue holding the jog dial while the display boots. I would keep holding it for roughly 5 seconds, or until the special Languages screen appears.
6. Release the jog dial.
7. Select English and press the dial.
8. Rotate the dial clockwise until Setting is highlighted and press it.

At that point you are in Service mode

• Diagnosis
• Setting
• Function invalidation

On the KX040-5, the display doesn’t necessarily lose power instantaneously when you rotate the starter switch to STOP. If you go STOP → hold dial → RUN too quickly, the monitor may simply resume/boot normally because it never experienced the proper cold-start initialization event.

So I would specifically try:


STOP → wait 30 seconds for screen to go completely black → press and HOLD jog dial → while still holding, turn to RUN → keep holding for 5–10 seconds.


If it still goes directly to the normal PIN/home screen, try a true cold power cycle:


Starter STOP → battery disconnect OFF → wait about 30 seconds → battery disconnect ON → press and HOLD jog dial → turn starter switch STOP→RUN.

Do not turn the starter to START during any of this.

One other important point

That means you don’t need Kubota’s diagnostic laptop just to get to the service screen.

You can reach it through the jog-dial/key-on sequence.
