Currently mow 2 acres with a 60" bobcat zero turn. All flat

Looking to swap to diesel sincee we have an abundance of it (9,000 gallons stored right now out back). Was gonna look at the ZD mowers this summer - but one popped up local for sale older zd28 with 700 hours on it. Haven't looked at it yet but pictures look promising. Looks like a 2006

Guy wants $5,000 for it

Any major problems with the zd28 that i should know about? at 700 hours at least.

Of course will depend on if the people before actually took care of the machine. But for $5k, if everything looks good when i go look - anything i should know about?

$5k seems lots better than the $8-10k for a used newer model zd

Spending 5K on a machine so you can burn free (?) fuel seems a bit foolish to me unless you're spending more than 5k on gasoline for the bobcat. You can mow 2 acres a LOT of times before you burn 5K worth of gasoline.

Its the last thing that is gas powered of our toys besides our car (which if tesla would get the new model out might be going to electric)- We are trying to get away from gas all together. Our trucks are diesel, generator is diesel, bx25 diesel. Just the bobcat is gas. Starting to get up there in age. We maintain it well - but its 15 years old now, with small things going bad here and there. Gonna be time for a new zero turn no matter what. So diesel.

We have our own pumps - so no more gas station - no more 5 gallon cans, no more old gas or additives and so forth. Been tired of gas engines for a long time now.

that zd28 sold within a few hours of it being listed. Like i said looked like in good shape. Guess I should have jumped on it sooner. Back to looking at newer zd units.

I mow my couple acres with my B2650 with mmm. Maybe a mower for your BX and still be money ahead?

We thought of that - but after mowing with a zero turn for all these years - there is just no going back for us. The bx25 is a backup mower. We had our bobcat go down before and parts sometimes took a while to get in.

Well, that makes sense. I am very familiar with the "tired of gas" thing myself. I commute in an electric car and got tired of lugging gas cans to feed my zero turn. My solution to mower gas was much cheaper than going to a diesel though. You can read my whole thread about it here: http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23095

I love my ZD326. It hangs on steep hills and has plently of power. I cut 5 acres of unlevel ground with it. I have the 60 inch deck. I read the 70 is not as good on uneven lawns. The price seems good. They are low maintenance and are very comfortable. My mom even mows at 70 when she comes out to visit.

So, did you end up buying that ZD? It sounds like a pretty sweet machine overall for that price.

Was a great price - too good of a price, sold right away before I could even go over to look at it. If I knew that was such a great price i would have been faster and gone right over to look/buy it

So now will be on the lookout for another good deal. In the meantime gonna change the oil and sharpen the blades on the bobcat for this spring, and I guess go fill up some gas cans :(
