1) Do any of you know if the V1702 Kubota engine is a wet or dry sleeve block?

2) After getting the head magnafluxed I found the head to be cracked between the #3 valves and pretty warped...what are the odds of the block/sleeve to be cracked on these engines?

3) before the head was removed the oil pressure was reading: Idle @ 25-30 psi & Operating RPM @ 50-60 psi ... are these good values?

4) Pressue test reulted:
4 = 260 psi
3 = 128 psi
2 = 160 psi
1 = 262 psi

5) The head gasket shows evidence that the cylinder was breathing between all of the cylinders which could explain the low compression values.

6) If a sleeve was cracked would it be visible to the naked eye?

7) If the bore checks good, I would like to re-ring, hone and place new bearings in the lower end (along with a new head to replace the cracked one). Thoughts?

8) I did not treat this poor tractor like mud... the old farmer who ran it with it white stacking before me did, however... I picked it up as a project tractor for our midwest acreage and am just trying to gain an idea where we are sitting before buying parts. Thanks in advance for all the help!!

Hello
The sleeves are dry. You can buy oversize pistons and bore the sleeves one time. In 40 years I've never seen a cracked sleeve in a Kubota Engine. The oil pressure readings you have are fine. Great tractor. Good luck with your project. Did you find a cylinder head yet?

#1 the L355 I've got a brand new cylinder head for a V1702 that I would part with for cheap.
I have any other parts you could need too, I have the whole engine.
The engine I have needs bored or resleeved.

And I'll second what Lance said, I've never seen a block or sleeve cracked, unless a piston or rod went through it.

There is 2 different sources that one lists the motor as a V1701 IDI and the other a V1702 IDI, so read on the block on the flat right next to the injection pump the engine number, it will be a stamped in # not a cast #. should read V1702A-XXXXX

My V1702 IDI was out of a Bobcat, same engine as what you have.

That cylinder head is an IDI head.

I still will make you a way better deal than amazon on a complete new head all parts included (new valves, springs, seals, and such), but then again free shipping is a nice incentive. ;)

By chance are any of the rods bent?
No glaring signs of a bent rod. Though I have not gotten around to performing another pressure & leak down test...I will say after just shy of 200 hours with the new head (and gasket) she hasn't used a single lick of oil or coolant!!

I heard it running, you don't have any bent rod issues, if you did it would be a hard start and would blow black smoke! ;)

Your L355SS tractor sounds sweet! :D

Had a BX2380 in recently.....absolutely NO sign of any engine problem whatsoever. But I noticed it was weak (customer did not complain of anything), or should I say weaker than I thought it should be. Did a quick compression test. #1 645. #2 620. #3 510. Pulled the head and found #3 and #2 rod bent slightly. Customer owned up to use of starting fluid the one time he ran it out of fuel. No smoke, no hard starting, nothing--I just noticed it to be a little weaker than I remember the 2380's being while test-mowing with it. Replaced 2 rods, back to normal. Not a hard job either; at least not on that one. Did an M5040 in June with 3 bent rods due to rollover/fill cylinders with oil and that one was obvious, one of the rods was hitting the block, was actually easier than the BX since I could get to them from under the tractor without removing the engine.
