I am having the very same problem with older L4400. If you figure it out please post the solution.

A very simple test is to remove the shut-off solenoid, put a piece of tape over the hole to keep debris out, and start the tractor. If it stays running you will need to pull the mechanical shut-off on the injection pump to stop it.

The tractor will start and stay running, it has an electrical problem.
The tractor will not start and stay running, it has a fuel or mechanical problem.

ya know I love simple ideas and can’t believe I didn’t think of removing the start solenoid in the first place just to rule out a mechanical issue for all the guys saying it was mechanical. I did try that though and it fires right up and ran perfectly. I then installed my new timer OPC switch and it started right up like it should. Funny thing is, everyone saying it was all these other possibilities and a dam 19 year old on a kubota Facebook page told me about that switch and that’s what it was.

Reminds me of the time I bought a mule which refused to go in the barn after I road it home. The mule lead well on a rope but when I tried leading him into the barn the tips of his ears touched the top of opening causing him to jump back and refuse taking another step I wupped, pulled, pushed and cussed him but to no avail. An old man down the road had been raising mules since he was a kid so I called to ask him for advice. He told me to dig a trench through the door and the mule would go right in. "What an idiot" I told me wife after hanging phone up, "it's the mules ears, not his legs that are too long".
