I am trying to get the outer part of a kubota rtv900 rear axel out, as the outer splines are badly stripped after it stopped spinning. It's not coming out, Here's the state it's currently in, I've been told at this point, i quote "Just whack the shit out of it." and it should come out, but am I missing something that needs to come off first? I have been 'whacking the shit out of it' for a little while with out it seeming to budge, do I maybe need to just go get an air hammer or otherwise get creative with forcing it out? I remember seeing somewhere where someone seemed to have to go to drastic measures here to get it out, assuming they meant the same thing.

I have not taken anything out of the inside there, just from the outside that you can see sitting on the bench there.

Nothing holding it in except the bearings.

If you "whack it" hard, you will end up mushrooming the axle end, so be careful.
As @North Idaho Wolfman says, there is nothing holding it in other than friction/rust.

You'd be better off (if you cannot loosen with penetrating oil and heat) to add some time to the mix.
Also if you can add some tension from the universal joint side with a strap or come-along, that might help too.

Consider an air hammer tool. There is a pretty good one at Harborfreight (Chief)
