I recently bought this older Kubota push mower (5hp 19" cut). It runs, but only on choke, and the motor revs up and down. (hunts). Replaced the pilot jet, but no improvement. You can still get the oem carbs for these for around $100.00 but I wonder if its worth the expense, especially if it doesn't solve the problem. It runs as I said previously, cuts and bags grass very well. Anyone familiar with these let me know what you think. Thanks.

you likely have a pilot air jet in the top of the carb. It too can get plugged. Pull it out, clean it with a piece of stripped back copper wire that barely fits. A lot of those pilot air jets, the hole don't go all the way through so don't try to make it go all the way through. Just run a wire into all the holes and then blow it out good. Also blow the hole in the carb out. Normally that takes care of it. But if you can get a new oem carb for $100, I'd certainly consider that option!

Those are good mowers, but IIRC the blade clutch is no longer available.

Lugbolt, I thought the pilot jet was the problem too when I first got it. Didn't realize that it didn't go all the way through when I was trying to run a very fine wire through it. Thought it was clogged but couldn't clear it so I put a new jet on, but it didn't solve the problem. (I had mentioned a new pilot jet in my original post). Thanks for your response. The mower is solid, and rolls like a dream. Something about the wheels, I guess ball bearings, makes it very easy to push, even when the bag is full.
