I have a Kubota M8540 hydraulic shuttle. I have a problem with the shuttle shifting from reverse to foward. The tractor with shift fine when cold then after running about 30-45 minutes the it will start to not shift from reverse to forward. when it starts doing this it will be slow to shift from reverse to forward then as it gets hotter it will not move foward at all. But it will always go in reverse. It does not seem like the clutch because it will pull fine when it is going forward does not seem like it is slipping seems to me it would do it all the time hot or cold and it does not run hot. (I had a M9000 that the clutch went out on, and it would run the engine hot because of over running it when the clutch slipped) Fluid and hydraulic filters have been changed recently. Is this a shuttle valve problem? Can anyone help me with this?

If this malfunction started after the hydraulic fluid/filter change then that would be the first place to look.

The other issue that is a clue is that the hydraulic shuttle shifting deteriorates as the fluid warm and thins.

I tried cheap hydraulic fluid in my M7040 (15 gallons) to save costs. It caused such noise and shifting problems that after 5 hours it was drained out and quality oil used (New Holland Ambra). As a result, the hydraulic fluid change ended up costing me more than it would have normally.

Don't go cheap with the fluid. The hydraulic clutch is an intricate and delicate feature.

Does the fliud type matter that much even if the fluid meets the original specs?

In older tractors the hydraulic fluid doesn't matter as much as it does in more modern (post 2000) tractors.

I infer from your question that you used a cheap fluid and that the problems began after the fluid change. Using this information you can come to your own conclusion.

There is only one way to find out for sure. Buy quality hydraulic fluid (New Holland, Case, Kubota, Amsoil, and others) and do the fluid change again. Might as well do the filters as well.

I learned the hard way and it sounds like you are on the same path that I went down. Not being very bright, I made the same mistake on all three of my tractors. "The cheapest person ends up paying the most." But never again.

I'm from Croatia and I need help with the Kubota m8540 tractor. we don't have many of them, so I'm asking for your help and experience.
When plowing, the tractor stops like when is in neutral. Then I shift to a lower working gear and he goes . reverse goes normally.
the tractor has 4150 hours, all oil filters and oil were changed 100 hours ago. everything as requested service at 4000 hours. we measured the pressure on the valve near the fuel tank. there are about 20 bars on the reverse, and 7 bars on the front. we performed the measurements at idle. we disassembled the tractor, the clutch looks good, there are no cracks, the o-rings are good. we also removed the valve near the reservoir. he looks good too. tomorrow we will take him apart too. what could be the cause of low pressure for forward driving?
