20 minutes, you are impatient! ;)

You should find out why/how it got hung up in the first place. Failing to do so, it may happen again, this time under load and with catastrophic results. I could as simple as a failed detent spring.

When you get a chance, take it apart again, and look at the piece of the shifter that contacts the grooves, in the pics you have shown here. As it is working now, I wouldn't worry too much, but there has to be some wear in something, to pop a rail forward, and not be able to get it back, with the shifter...:D:D

After looking at the very first picture, of the 2 shifter sticks, I think you may have an alignment problem, not sure... Can you rotate that left hand shifter through a wide arc? In the pic, it looks like it skews way to the left. All my kubotas have a rigid stick, with no arc type movement. Could have a pin missing or broke off, never have taken one apart , so I'm not too sure...

My 52 cockshutt dit it once, i was a mile away from home. All i had was a crescent wrench and an axe. Used wrench to get top off 18" square 1/2" thick casting cover. Used axe to align shift forks and away i went. It has never done it since.

Glad you got it solved. Was hesitant to suggest it, as its so rare for that to happen.

A locked trans can be caused by a worn detent ball and/or shifter forks. The trans is in one gear, and the worn parts allow another gear to come into mesh at the same time, which locks it up. It may not happen again soon, but the fact that it happened once means it is possible to happen again. After the lockup is cleared, careful shifting without forcing it may keep the problem away for a long time.

Hi all. I also have a Kubota M4500 DT with the same problem. It was all jammed up, and only worked in reverse. any fwd gears it would bind up and stall. So I pulled the top off and the reverse gear had slid back. so forward and reverse at same time. So glad i did not load up too much as would have made a bit of a mess.
With the top off all forward gears are firm to move, but the reverse, on the left, just slides backwards and forwards with no spring or ball to keep in place. so when tractor is leaning down hill the gear can slide backwards and lock things up.

Does anyone know ho to fix this?

where does the spring go if any ?

Thanks

Scott

I just picked up a 4500 DT and this was the exact same issue. I I'm trying to understand if it is missing anything that would eliminate the shifter coming free from that reverse fork slot.
