Never had a problem with this, then today.....tractor stopped moving. PTO working fine. When I select a gear ( any gear) and move shuttle either forward or reverse, the tractor does not move. I can feel the shuttle selector grabbing forward or reverse. Also, I can feel the detends when selecting a gear. Now here is the confusion. If I select a gear, and engage the shuttle, tractor does not move. If I press down on the clutch, the tractor tries to move. ( if I put in 1st gear it will actually move a little) In addition there is a noise coming from trans/clutch area. Kind of a sketching noise. I checked fluid. All good. Any suggestions? Tractor has 1850 hr. Never had any othe issues. I service it regularly

You say the PTO is working, but your other symptoms suggest a clutch problem.

When you put the gear selector, PTO and shuttle in gear with the clutch engaged, does the PTO keep turning but the tractor doesn't move?

I took a video of the problem but I can’t figure out how to post it. If you saw the video I think it would provide you with visuals and sounds. How can I get this video to
I have concluded that this forum will not allow the posting of videos. that is too bad, since it is a very good way to communicate, especially when it comes to hearing the sounds that the tractor is making.
Do you have an e-mail I can send this to you? thank you

It's beyond my technical capability, but many will post a video to youtube then post the link here.

Grapeman - welcome to OTT.

I’m not able to help without guessing.

I know of several fellows here that are quite familiar with drivetrains of the era and the GST. Hopefully some of them will chime in.

Best wishes.

Okay the video link works, I would verify your levers are moving the linkages on the transmission.

OK, you're sort of in luck - there's a free download of your WorkShop Manual available at www.kubotabooks.com.

First, I made an assumption about your powertrain without looking at the diagram on page 3-M8 of the WSM . Your PTO has a separate hydraulic clutch and doesn't go through the foot clutch. So, I'm thinking you're looking at a split and clutch job. There's a troubleshooting guide in the WSM that may help you confirm that. Perhaps there's a way to peek in the clutch housing and see what's happening there. Also check the clutch linkage, maybe something has fouled it.

@North Idaho Wolfman will hopefully show up here to bail me out.

Yep mechanical clutch is fried, sounds like the pressure plate has gone south.

And the reason the PTO still works is it's direct driven off the crank via a hub that does not rely on the clutch.
