I am currently looking at purchasing a new Kubota L4701 tractor. It would replace two older tractors (1966 135 Massey/Ferguson Diesel and a 1963 Ford 2000 currently set up on Propane) that are no longer operational.

I have never owned a Kubota and am seeking some feedback. This tractor would be used for maintaining a 68 acre farm, bush hogging terraces and pastures, and just general utility work. Would like to hear back from other Kubota owners and especially those who own the 4701 model.

Many thanks in advance!

Bought a L4701DT about 5 weeks ago and love it. Like you I replace a 1965 JD 1010 and a 1950 AR JD. Compared to them the Kubota is a Cadillac. So far the only real test is putting the 72" hog to work. The L4701 pulled and hogged down what ever I put it through with ease and some of the stuff was really heavy. Ever so glad I got around to buying one!!!!:D:D:D

Thanks, RDL! If you don't mind me asking, do have the 4 wheel drive version? Did you get the geared or hydrostat drive model? Also, what about the front end loader?

Thanks!

4X4-geared drive and loader. Also bought along with it 6' land pride bush hog and box blade. Here's a pic the day we got it home.

While I personally prefer a bit heavier tractor with a bit more H, the L4701 looks like a pretty good buy with some nice features the smaller units don't have.

We run HST and geared units, in that size my preference is HST. We load our tires and add a minimum of two rear remotes, our last has TnT.

Good luck.

One other thing is we also have ballast (beat juice)in the rear tires. Think they said it added about 400lb per tire.

If I were using it several hours a week and doing a lot of loader work would have went with the HST. Mainly we use it to bush hog were I live on 70 acres about 20 to bush hog and a hunting cabin 160 acres and hog about 20 there also occasionally dirt and gravel work.

Yeah, different strokes. My brother and I grew up farming with old crash box transmissions and when we got synch-shuttle-shift machines, we were in heaven. UNTIL I bought a M8540HDC and L5740HSTC.

We have quite a bit of acreage though and will often put quite a few hours hogging with back and forth as well as dirt and grapple work.

My brother has a relatively new synch-shuttle, he now wishes he had gone HST or hydro-shuttle but not enough to trade and he often still uses our old 30, 40 and 50 year old tractors if he is just hogging.

I've got bad joints, so I no longer get along well with clutches, so whatever works.

I appreciate the discussion on geared vs HST. Where I will be using this tractor will require a lot of back and forth, so the point is not lost on me.

My old Ford has liquid in the rear tires and is something I have always felt made them perform better. The old Ferguson belonged to my wife's grandfather and he never used fluid in the tires and having operated them both, I much prefer having the fluid filled rear tires.

Buying my first tractor. I am wanting to buy a L4701HST 4WD I was given a quote of $27,750 with a front loader. Is this a good price?
