my l3901 will start and run for awhile then it just drops rpm's and quits like it has run out of fuel . I found some trash in water separator cleaned it out and changed fuel filter but still having the same problem . have less than 200 hours on tractor any good suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Trash???
Like algae?

Sound like you need to treat your fuel with an algaecide to get rid of it, you also need to treat whatever storage containers you have too. ;)

Wayne: Let me get this straight: It starts, it runs, it will Idle - - but when you increase the RPM it will only run a short time before it starves and stalls. Then after that, you can restart it?

If that's the case... the exact same thing happened to me on my L3901. It was confounding... When I went to drain the water separator THAT'S when it hit me.

I thought that the fuel flow from the tank was not as robust as I would expect it to be. I shot a blast of compressed air backwards through the fuel line that feeds the water separator. Apparently the previous owner allowed LEAVES to fall into the fuel tank. It was an obvious restriction which I cured in this fashion.

Easy to do.

I also have had this problem when I first got my L3901DT. I found two things, the first was that the fine screen in the water separator had really fine rush on it. Second was that the flow of fuel through the supply hose was really slow. I also used compressed air to blow the hose out into the tank. I bought the tractor new, but it did sit on the dealer's lot during the winter months with less than a half of a tank of fuel. I had water in the blow a couple of times.

Hi Wayne, when you are following the above suggestions, be very careful not to let any of the "trash" to get beyond the fuel filter and water separator. This is a common rail tractor and the high pressure pump is easy to damage. If an algicide doesn't work or cleaning out fuel tank, I'd involve a dealer. The fuel system should be under warranty..
