my MX5100 was stolen a few weeks ago and while hoping the impossible to get it back i need to replace the loss and hence me asking all these questions. The MX5100 was a beauty and did everything I wanted to do with 4 IN 1 FEL and the Slasher did the rest. there is a 5-6 month waiting time to get in stock with orders so im frantically trying to find a replacement with suitable implements at a lower cost so i can get other work done on the property. the dealer is offering the L3800 with a mechanical thumb so looking for advice on which is the next range up for a hydraulic thumb. Thank youHow much more? It's most likely worth it. Much more horse power. Is this to complement your MX5100 in your profile?
Thank you for your honest comment. I agree with you totally however the insurance won't pay the difference in the increase over the last 10 years and given that about 50% of the 15 acres is mainly 40 degrees angle in some areas I thought id try getting a lower-height tractor. Are you saying it's such a big difference in performance?I have a L3800HST and a MX5100DT. I wouldn’t be happy if I had to replace the 5100 with a 3800. Depending on your use I’d step up to a M series.
Hobby farm with blackberries to clear and dig outIs this for personal or business use?
You said you’re “frantically trying to find a replacement”. That might cause you to make a bad purchase, overpaying, bad condition of machine, etc.
Personal use try to rent and or hire out work until a new in stock order arrives.
Good morning. If never used an HST much and especially in hills, I’d caution to be aware of dramatic loss of power with an HST (HST soaks it up like a sponge) running up hills….they will absolutely do it, but you will likely need to reduce your speed (and keep in lowest gear). IMO an HST feels like a 20ish-30% % (belly rub not a fact) loss in power compared to a geared machine going up a hill or under a load going up hills described. I’d try to demo one before decideing. Maybe also consider to travel or buy and have shipped f not much selection locally for what you want/need. Good luck.Thank you for your honest comment. it was adequate but no BH which would have been very handy. I may end up going with BX23SLD which is far cheaper at about $40,000 Australian than $69,500 Australian. anything higher starts at $51,000 Australian. Ill be using the back hoe more often and a Cosmo Bully Flail mulcherA big factor is how much power do you need ? Did the 5100 have enough power, or way more than you ever needed. it was good going u hills however i might just abandon the hills and stock of goats on it to clear u overgrowth.
