Kubota L35 - Glide Shift Transmission not working

The L35 is dead in the water. The GST shifter had some resistance on Saturday and then something 'broke' when I was changing gears. Turns out, one of the two cables coming out of the Shift Assembly is broken and hanging. The part is

Kubota Cable Shift Assy. 34076-64803

Best I can tell, I have to purchase the entire assembly (to the tune of $620) instead of replacing this particular cable. In the picture below, I have drawn a highlight around the part...there are two cables running from it and the one that broke is the lower of the two cables.

Two questions:

1. Do you agree that there is no way I can just fix the cable itself and avoid $620 for an entire assembly?
2. If anyone has any experience with these, is it a fairly simple bolt off/on type situation? I'd like to do the work myself.

As always, would love any recommendations or suggestions...thanks much.

Yes you will need to buy the whole assembly, yes it's expensive.

It's easy to change out but you will need the WSM to adjust it correctly.

WSM? I am assuming that a specific shop manual?

It didn't look too hard to change out...glad you confirmed it isn't too bad. The 'adjustment' part has me a little concerned but with the right instructions I am optimistic.

I can give you copies of the specific pages to adjust it upon replacement as it's the same as my L3450 GST.

It's really easy as you just have to adjust cables to length.

Are the cables breaking due to lack of lube or age? Should we find a way to lube to extend their lives?

Another cable victim while working on a pond job. It was stuck in 5th, so I could get it inside to work on. Could have been way worse, I Ordered at messicks, @ $712 to my door. It looks like a pretty straight forward swap, will check back when I get stuck installing it.

Mines a 2002 that I bought with 475 hours in 2006. Has 1100 hours now, just needs a lttle love. Been real good to me. Thanks,

there were a few issues early on with the cable and control assembly. The part has been updated at least 3 times to my knowledge. Maybe more. So if you're buying a new assembly rest assured that it's the latest revision-and keep in mind that there is probably not going to be another revision as these tractors are getting aged. They aren't required to support them forever.
